At Scaleway we’re building trustworthy, competitive and responsable infrastructure for the leading companies in the world. - Yann Lechelle, CEO Scaleway
Scaleway (previously Online SAS) is awarded the European award for their energetic performances for its carbon neutral datacenter. Our “free cooling” and adiabatic cooling systems (the first of its kind in France) translate into an extremely low PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) at less than 1.15.
Online launches Scaleway, the world’s first Cloud Computing IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) platform backed by ARM BareMetal SSD servers, at 2 eurocents an hour.
Building off our early success, Scaleway becomes the 1st provider to offer full BareMetal. In parallel, we opened our new Datacenter in Amsterdam.
Scaleway starts the year with a strong growth and gains recognition from the new generation of developers. In parallel, the company begins expanding our product offering.
Launch of our vast transformation and R&D plan: new generation datacenters, massive global scale with intensive recruitment, unique working spaces in Paris and Lille (Les Maisons)… Scaleway is gradually becoming the main brand of Online.
Scaleway obtains HDS certification allowing it to host health data. The company also organized the first edition of ScaleDay’n Night, an IT event with almost 1200 attendees (customers, suppliers, outsourcing managers, press, etc.).
It is within our individual and corporate responsibility to make sure that how we build and power our quickly growing global digital infrastructure is smarter, more responsible and renewably powered in order to fight climate change. We believe we have a critical role to catalyze a transformative change in the consumption and production of energy and how we use it.
Because we’ve always challenged the status quo rather than build on normal, our datacenters are unique in the world, using 100% non-carbonated energy and in 2019 exclusively 100% green renewable energy. Our latest datacenter (DC5) uses a natural cooling system (no AC!) for a radically more efficient operation with nearly half the energy consumption.
We are Carbon neutral: Our carbon neutral datacenter design requires a much smaller percentage of energy spent on cooling and other non-computing power demand, designed on European Code of Conduct for data centers. Our environmental strategy revolves around two main clear and precise objectives, namely, the control of our energy consumption and the waste management in a context of strong development of the subscriber base and a very strong increase in uses. Our “free cooling” and adiabatic cooling system, the first of its kind in France translates into an extremely low PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) at less than 1.15.
We are part of the circular economy: We have implemented the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) European directive in order to improve our environmental performance. Our electrical and IT equipment is collected and sent for reuse or recycling.
We are transparent : Our DC2, DC3 and DC4 have a power usage effectiveness (PUE) inferior to 1.3. Our latest DC5 has been designed from the ground up and offers a PUE of 1.15 for 24MW and 11 000m2 surface. We provide a real-time public analysis of our DC3 energy, available on https://pue.online.net/en. We are working on publishing all of our datacenters power usage in real time.
