A sustainable path for Europe’s digital future: Scaleway publishes its 2024 CSR Impact Report

“For Scaleway, 2024 was a year of strengthened vision: building a responsible cloud for Europe, in the service of digital autonomy — an autonomy that must be sustainable for people, for the planet, and for long-term innovation.”

For years, Scaleway’s mission has been to develop the infrastructures and software tools that enable its clients, partners, and Europe as a whole to achieve technological autonomy. This mission is crucial, as technological innovation lies at the heart of both today’s and tomorrow’s economic growth. France and Europe must evolve from being mere consumers of technology to becoming creators of technological value. This is both an economic and a social mission, as innovation determines sovereignty, employment, and prosperity in the decades ahead.

This transition requires significant investment, not only in infrastructure but also in the people who design it. In 2024, Scaleway expanded training opportunities for its teams, particularly in artificial intelligence, logging 112 hours of training to equip them with the means to shape the technologies of tomorrow.
Responsible digital autonomy also depends on the quality of infrastructure, the efficiency of products, and the transparency of the ecosystem. In 2024, Scaleway continued its efforts to limit the environmental footprint of its activities, while also giving clients and partners the tools to measure and manage their own.

Controlling emissions.

The rise of artificial intelligence has led to a surge in energy consumption across the entire cloud industry. Thanks to a long-term strategy and investment in highly efficient datacenters, Scaleway limited the increase in its electricity consumption to just 15.4%, while achieving +37% growth in average revenue per user. Hosting AI servers in DC5, one of Europe’s most efficient datacenters, allowed the company to keep CO₂ emissions under control. Emissions would have been 16% higher had these AI servers been placed in DC2, for example.

Providing visibility into the impact of our clients and partners.

“At the end of 2024, we launched our environmental footprint calculator, the most advanced tool on the market for measuring the footprint of cloud services. Based on a methodology validated by ADEME and already covering the broadest scope of services in the industry, this tool makes Scaleway the first European cloud provider to render the impact of cloud services transparent and measurable, product by product.

These milestones reaffirm our commitment: to build an innovative, sustainable, and sovereign European cloud. At Scaleway, we will continue to innovate - not at any cost, but with the conviction that technology must serve both progress and responsibility.

Finally, I would like to thank all our teams, partners, and clients who make this journey possible. This report reflects their dedication, and I hope it provides both transparency and inspiration for the road ahead” says Damien Lucas, CEO of Scaleway
