France Télévisions and Scaleway team up, marking a key milestone in building a sovereign future for cloud and streaming services in France

France Télévisions – France’s leading audiovisual group – and Scaleway – the iliad Group’s cloud services subsidiary – today signed a strategic partnership agreement at VivaTech.
The partnership has a dual objective:

  • To enable the France Télévisions group to use Scaleway’s cloud to host and process data related to its programs (fiction, entertainment and news).
  • For the two entities to jointly develop the tools and systems needed for streaming services to be hosted on Scaleway’s cloud platform.

This alliance marks a major step towards building an alternative European cloud for the audiovisual sector. It's a milestone project – one of the first of its kind between a benchmark public-sector player and a European cloud services provider.

UA hands-on response to the need for digital sovereignty

At a time when Europe is seeking to regain control of its critical infrastructure, this partnership embodies a strong determination to guarantee strict management of infrastructure and personal data by relying on secure and transparent European cloud solutions.

The tools and systems that will be developed under the partnership will be based on Scaleway’s cloud-native and open-source technologies and will enable audiovisual content (videos, AI, sub-titles, etc.) to be processed and broadcast in a smooth and scalable way, while ensuring that all data will be hosted in France. The areas covered by these tools and systems will include:

  • large-scale video processing;
  • automated sub-titling;
  • AI-driven indexation and enhancement;
  • resilience for streaming peak loads.
    And they will all be underpinned by open standards and shared tech governance.

Delphine Ernotte Cunci, President and CEO of France Télévisions, stated “_Our partnership with Scaleway gives us the opportunity to get involved in the cloud ecosystem and to work together on developing solutions tailored to the needs of our media. By teaming up with a key French innovation player, France Télévisions is also actioning its commitment to tech sovereignty, which is a strategic priority for our group”. _

Damien Lucas, CEO of Scaleway, said, “The announcement we’re making today is truly historic. France Télévisions – France’s leading audiovisual group – has chosen Scaleway as its strategic cloud partner. It’s a resounding illustration of how Europe can take back control of its data and technologies and shape its own digital future.”
