Scaling sovereign healthcare data and workflows for Galeon

Galeon develops an AI-powered electronic health record SaaS platform that helps hospitals streamline care workflows across specialties and structure patient data for research.

It was founded to address a major challenge in healthcare: the poor quality and lack of structure of hospital data, which limit its use for medical research.

"Until very recently, some hospitals were still willing to work with non-European providers. But that is changing fast. Having Scaleway as our cloud partner helps us build trust in those conversations.” - Laurent Charvolin, Chief Information Officer, Galeon

Goals

Galeon approached Scaleway because it needed to move beyond a traditional hosting setup (with rented physical servers and significant infrastructure management) and to a more scalable infrastructure. The trigger was a move from an obstetrics-focused product to a cross-specialty Electronic Patient Record (Dossier Patient Informatisé) deployment, starting with the Marseille Saint-Joseph hospital in 2025.
Scaleway stood out because Galeon needed sovereignty, health-data compliance, and technical proximity. Regulatory requirements such as HDS narrowed the field, while Scaleway’s fully European governance and growing reputation helped reassure hospital customers. Going through Scaleway’s Startup Program helped Galeon build a direct relationship with Scaleway’s teams and assess the platform’s technical fit and long-term potential. Crucially, repeat conversations confirmed the two companies shared the same vision of innovation.

Solution

On Scaleway, Galeon now runs a Kubernetes-based architecture across 3 clusters, including management tools, disaster recovery, and innovation workloads such as OCR and speech-to-text, with more AI applications in the works. Its deployment also relies on services including Container Registry, Secret Manager, S3-compatible storage for backups, Object Storage, and others.

Results

The results are tangible: Galeon can now add cluster capacity in under 5 minutes — a 3x improvement —, scale resources up or down depending on demand, and was able to cut overall infrastructure costs by 50-67% at comparable load.

What’s next

In the near term, the company will continue migrating toward a more scalable V3 architecture for production and future AI workloads, laying the groundwork for the nascent but promising field of Medical AI. Galeon also plans to explore Scaleway’s Managed Services further as a way to keep reducing infrastructure complexity.
