How to attach/detach a failover IP

Reviewed on 08 April 2024Published on 24 March 2022

Only users who have completed the linking of their the Dedibox account to the Scaleway console are granted access to the Dedibox section within the Scaleway console. For detailed information on the migration process, please refer to our account linking documentation. If you cannot locate the Dedibox link in Scaleway's console side menu, you can use the Dedibox console to place orders, manage your Dediboxes, and access the related documentation.

Each failover IP can be routed to any of your Dedibox servers at any time by using the Scaleway console or the API.

Note

Failover IPs are associated with the Dedibox product and cannot be moved to a different product category. For example, a failover IP can be moved to another Dedibox server, but it cannot be transferred to other service types like Load Balancers or Elastic Metal servers.

Before you start

To complete the actions presented below, you must have:

  • A Scaleway account logged into the console
  • Owner status or IAM permissions allowing you to perform actions in the intended Organization
  • Configured your SSH key
  • Linked your Dedibox and Scaleway accounts
  • Ordered a Dedibox server and a failover IP

How to attach a failover IP

  1. Click Dedibox in the Bare Metal section of the side menu.
  2. Click the Failover IPs tab to display a list of your failover IPs.
  3. Move your mouse over the failover IP you want to attach to your Dedibox server. Click the IP and drop it on the Dedibox you want to attach it to.

The routing of your failover IP will be updated. Once the blue dot turns green, your IP is operational, and you can configure it on your machine.

Tip

Alternatively, you can attach a failover IP by clicking «See more Icon» and Assign IP. Then, enter the ID of your Dedibox to attach the IP.

How to detach a failover IP

  1. Click Dedibox in the Bare Metal section of the side menu.

  2. Click the Failover IPs tab to display a list of your failover IPs.

  3. Move your mouse over the failover IP you want to detach from a Dedibox server. Click the IP and drop it in the failover IP list on the left of the screen.

The routing of your failover IP will be updated. Once the blue dot turns green your IP is no longer routed to the Dedibox and is ready to be attached to another machine.

Tip
  • You can also drop the IP directly on another Dedibox to assign it to that machine without service interruption.
  • Alternatively, you can detach a failover IP by clicking «See more Icon» -> Reassign IP. Then click Unassign in the pop-up to detach the IP.
