How to power off your Instance

Reviewed on 16 June 2023 • Published on 26 May 2021

Powering off your Instance shuts it down by transferring all the data on the Instance’s local volume, to a volume store. The physical node is released back to the pool of available machines. The Instance’s flexible IP (if it has one) remains available in your account.

Security & Identity (IAM):

You may need certain IAM permissions to carry out some actions described on this page. This means:

  • you are the Owner of the Scaleway Organization in which the actions will be carried out, or
  • you are an IAM user of the Organization, with a policy granting you the necessary permission sets
Note:

The power-off process may take some time, depending on the amount of data on the Instance’s local volume. You should shut down the OS of your Instance first by logging into your Instance as root and executing the halt command.
