Domains and DNS - Quickstart
Scaleway Domains and DNS allows you to manage and register your internal and external domains and configure and manage their DNS zones.
Before you start
To complete the actions presented below, you must have:
- A Scaleway account logged into the console
- Owner status or IAM permissions allowing you to perform actions in the intended Organization
How to register an internal domain
- Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS screen displays.
- Click + Search domain name.
- Enter the domain name you wish to register in the search bar and hit
Enter
to verify that the domain is available. A list of domain names displays with their availability status. - Tick the box next to the domain you want to register. Then click Select and configure contacts.
- Fill in the Contact information, Address, and Additional information sections, then click Add new contact.
- Select the registrant, administrative, and technical contact for your domain from the drop-down. Then click Validate and continue. Your order summary displays.
- Choose a registration period for your domain.
- Check the box to confirm you understand that you will be billed the price that displays.
- Click Register domain to confirm your order.
How to register an external domain
The domain registration process differs depending on whether or not you already have domains with Scaleway Domains and DNS.

Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS screen displays.

Click + Search domain name.

Enter the domain name you wish to register in the search bar and hit
Enter
to verify that the domain is available. A list of domain names displays with their availability status. -
Click Manage as external next to the external domain you want to register.

Check the estimated cost and click Manage as external.

Copy the token displayed and create a
TXT
record with the name_scaleway-challenge
within your current DNS zone as instructed. -
Click Back to my external domains once you have set up the record in your current DNS zone. Your external domain displays. The status of any ongoing DNS operations is visible through a blue dot on the left side of the domain. Once the record has been validated, the dot turns green, and you will receive an email with further instructions on how to update your domain's DNS servers.
Update the name server information at your current registrar once your domain name is validated, in order to link your existing domain name with your Scaleway Domains DNS zone.
You can verify whether the association of your domain has been completed by checking the Name servers section, in the Domain information page.
- Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS screen displays.
- Click the External domains tab, then click + Manage new domain.
- Enter the external domain name in the search bar and hit

to check if the domain exists. - Enter the number of million queries you need. The estimated cost for the domain name displays.
- Click Manage as external. The instructions to set up your external domain display.
- Copy the token displayed and create a
TXT
record with the name_scaleway-challenge
within your current DNS zone as instructed. - Click Back to my external domains once you have set up the record in your current DNS zone. The list of your external domains displays.

How to add a new DNS zone
- Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS screen displays.
- Click the domain for which you want to add a DNS zone. The domain's Overview tab displays.
- Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain displays.
- Click + Add zone to create a new DNS zone. A pop-up displays prompting you to enter a name for the new DNS zone.
- Enter a name, check the estimated cost, and click Add zone.
How to delete an existing DNS zone
- Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS screen displays.
- Click the domain for which you want to delete a DNS zone. The domain's Overview tab displays.
- Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain displays.
- Click more icon next to the DNS zone you want to delete, then click Delete.
- Type DELETE and click Delete zone to confirm the action.
How to add DNS records
- Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS zone screen displays.
- Click the domain you want to manage. The domain's Overview tab displays.
- Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain displays.
- Click the DNS zone you want to add a record in.
- Click + Add records. A pop-up displays.
- Fill in the required information for the record.
- Click Add records to confirm.
How to delete DNS records
- Click Domains and DNS in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the Scaleway console side menu. The Domains and DNS zone screen displays.
- Click the domain you want to manage. The domain's Overview tab displays.
- Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain displays.
- Click the DNS zone containing the record you want to delete.
- Click delete icon next to the record. A pop-up displays.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
- Click Delete record to delete the record from the zone.
