Domains and DNS - Quickstart

Console overview

Follow this guided tour to discover how to navigate the console.

Scaleway Domains and DNS allows you to manage and register your internal and external domains and configure and manage their DNS zones.

Before you start

To complete the actions presented below, you must have:

  • A Scaleway account logged into the console
  • Owner status or IAM permissions allowing you to perform actions in the intended Organization

Register an internal domain

  1. In the Scaleway console side menu, go to Domains & Web Hosting > Domains and DNS. The Domains and DNS page opens.
  2. Click + Search domain name.
  3. Enter the domain name you wish to register in the search bar and hit Enter to verify that the domain is available. A list of domain names appears with their availability status.
  4. Tick the box next to the domain you want to register. Then click Select and configure contacts.
  5. Fill in the Contact information, Address, and Additional information sections, then click Add new contact.
  6. Select the registrant, administrative, and technical contact for your domain from the dropdown. Then click Validate and continue. Your order summary opens.
  7. Choose a registration period for your domain.
  8. Check the box to confirm you understand that you will be billed the price that appears.
  9. Click Register domain to confirm your order.
Important
  • Make sure to check your domain name for any spelling mistakes before you place the order.
  • You cannot change the domain name once the registration is complete and the fees will still apply. You can of course register another domain with the correctly spelled name.
  • Internal domains are billed immediately upon registration.

Register an external domain

The domain registration process differs depending on whether or not you already have domains with Scaleway Domains and DNS.

Add a new DNS zone

  1. In the Scaleway console side menu, go to Domains & Web Hosting > Domains and DNS. The Domains and DNS page opens.
  2. Click the domain for which you want to add a DNS zone. The Overview tab opens.
  3. Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain appears.
    Note

    The Root zone is available by default. This zone is directly associated with the domain name and cannot be deleted. It is only removed from the DNS when you delete the associated domain name.

  4. Click + Add zone to create a new DNS zone. A dialog box appears prompting you to enter a name for the new DNS zone.
  5. Enter a name, check the estimated cost, and click Add zone.

Delete an existing DNS zone

  1. In the Scaleway console side menu, go to Domains & Web Hosting > Domains and DNS. The Domains and DNS page opens.
  2. Click the domain for which you want to delete a DNS zone. The Overview tab opens.
  3. Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain appears.
  4. Click more icon next to the DNS zone you want to delete, then click Delete.
  5. Type DELETE and click Delete zone to confirm the action.

Add DNS records

  1. In the Scaleway console side menu, go to Domains & Web Hosting > Domains and DNS. The Domains and DNS page opens.
  2. Click the domain you want to manage. The Overview tab opens.
  3. Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain appears.
  4. Click the DNS zone you want to add a record in.
  5. Click + Add records. A dialog box appears.
  6. Fill in the required information for the record.
  7. Click Add records to confirm.

Delete DNS records

  1. In the Scaleway console side menu, go to Domains & Web Hosting > Domains and DNS. The Domains and DNS page opens.
  2. Click the domain you want to manage. The Overview tab opens.
  3. Click the DNS zones tab. A list of the DNS zones you have configured within the selected domain appears.
  4. Click the DNS zone containing the record you want to delete. The list of records within the selected zone appears.
  5. Click delete icon next to the record you want to delete. A dialog box appears.
  6. Type DELETE to confirm.
  7. Click Delete record to delete the record from the zone.
