How to use flexible IP addresses

Reviewed on 26 May 2021Published on 26 May 2021

This page shows you how to use flexible IP addresses with your Public Gateways.

You can hold flexible IP addresses independently of any Public Gateway, and attach and detach them to/from any of your Public Gateways as you wish. You can keep a number of flexible IP addresses in your account at any given time.

Important:

This how-to concerns the creation of Public Gateway Flexible IPs. For the creation of Instance Flexible IPs or Bare Metal Flexible IPs please see the relevant documentation. Note that each set of Flexible IPs is independent, and usable only with that product. Instance Flexible IPs cannot be attached to Public Gateways and vice versa.

Requirements:

How to create a new flexible IP address

  1. Click Public Gateways in the VPC section of the side menu.

  2. Navigate to the Flexible IPs tab.

  3. Click Add flexible IP (or the «Plus Icon» button if you have existing flexible IPs). The Flexible IP creation wizard displays.

  4. Complete the following information in the wizard:

    • Choose a Region, which is the geographical location where your flexible IP will be created.
    • Check the Estimated Cost for the flexible IP.
  5. Click Order a Flexible IP to finish.

You are taken to the list of your flexible IPs, where the new flexible IP address you just created now appears.
