How to configure a Mailbox

Before you start

To complete the actions presented below, you must have:

  1. Click Mailbox in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the console side menu. The list of your domains displays.
  2. Click a Mailbox domain to configure.

Add email accounts

The email account creation window is displayed during the creation of a Mailbox domain or when clicking Add email account from a Mailbox domain.

  1. Create your email accounts:
    1. Enter the email prefix.
    2. Enter a password or click the magic wand button to autogenerate a strong password.
    3. Click Add.
  2. If needed, click Add another email account and repeat the previous steps.
  3. Check the estimated cost summary, then click Create email account(s).

Access Webmail

Tip

The website to access your Mailbox is mailbox.scw.eu.

  1. In the Email accounts tab, click Access Webmail to open the email service application in a new browser tab.
  2. Enter your full email address and password to access your Mailbox.

Check Mailbox DNS records

  1. In the DNS records tab, check and copy information related to email delivery, email authentication, mail client configuration, calendar, and contacts services.
  2. Add the DNS records to your domain management service.
  3. Click Check status to run a validation for all DNS records.

The DNS records are detailed in the following sections.

Required DNS records

RecordDescription
Domain validationVerifies that you own the domain before activating Mailbox.
MXDefines the mail servers responsible for receiving emails for your domain.
DMARCDefines how receiving servers should handle emails that fail SPF or DKIM authentication.
SPFAuthorizes Mailbox servers to send emails on behalf of your domain and helps prevent spoofing.
DKIMEnables cryptographic signing of outgoing emails to improve authenticity and deliverability.

These records improve the automatic configuration of email clients.

AutoconfigAllows email clients to automatically detect the email server configuration.
AutodiscoverUsed by clients such as Microsoft Outlook for automatic email configuration.
IMAPService discovery record indicating the IMAP server used to retrieve emails.
POP3Service discovery record indicating the POP3 server used to retrieve emails.
SubmissionDefines the SMTP submission server used to send emails.

Optional DNS records

These records allow automatic discovery for calendar and contacts synchronization services.

RecordDescription
CalDAVEnables automatic configuration of calendar synchronization using CalDAV.
CardDAVEnables automatic configuration of contact synchronization using CardDAV.

Check email account incoming and outgoing protocols

  1. Click Mailbox in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the console side menu. The list of your domains displays.
  2. Click a Mailbox domain to configure. The list of Mailboxes created for this domain is displayed.
  3. Click an email account to configure. The email account information is displayed.
  4. In the Settings tab, check and copy information related to email delivery (IMAP, PP3 and SMTP).

Tip

For the records for imap, pop3, and smtp, the value starts with three numbers that correspond to priority, weight, and port. If these fields exists on your domain manager, fill them in and remove them from the value field.
