How to add an alias to a Mailbox email account

Note

Mailbox is currently in Private Beta.

Alias addresses allow you to receive emails sent to multiple addresses in the same mailbox. Aliases help you:

  • Sort your subscriptions: create the alias john-newsletter to group all newsletters. Filter and delete emails without impacting the main address.
  • Test without exposing the main address: create the alias john-test for a form or integration, and delete it after testing is done.
  • Limit exposure on third-party tools: create dedicated aliases (e.g., john-github and john-gitlab) for each tool.
  • Spot data leaks: create one alias per service to know who leaked your data if spam shows up.
Note
  • An alias is unique to one Mailbox email account.
  • An alias cannot be the same as an existing Mailbox email account or alias.
  • An alias cannot be used to send emails. To send emails from an alias, you must create a separate Mailbox email account.
  • Emails sent to an alias are delivered to the main mailbox, and you can only consult these emails from the main mailbox.
