Configure your domain to authenticate with your Scaleway Mailbox

In this tutorial, you will learn how to manually configure your domain DNS records to work with your Mailbox.

Before you start

To complete the actions presented below, you must have:

Check the DNS records of your Mailbox

  1. Click Mailbox in the Domains & Web Hosting section of the console side menu. The list of your domains displays.
  2. Click a Mailbox domain to configure.
  3. In the DNS records tab, the page displays the records related to email delivery, email authentication, mail client configuration, calendar, and contacts services.

Keep this page open, you will need all these values in the next steps. You will also need to come back to this page after adding records on your domain to synchronize the changes with your Mailbox.

Important

The records for MX, DMARC, DKIM, and SPF are required for your domain to authenticate with your Mailbox.

Configure MX record

  1. On your Mailbox records page, get ready to copy the name and value corresponding to the mx record.
  2. On another tab or page, go to the records settings on your domain (refer to your domain manager for more information).
  3. Add a new record:
    • Record type: MX
    • Name: Paste the name you have copied from the mx record of your Mailbox, or leave it empty depending on your domain manager.
    • Priority: 10
    • Value or Hostname: Paste the value you have copied from the mx record of your Mailbox, with or without the 10 depending on your domain manager.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. On your Mailbox records page, click Check status to synchronize the changes with your Mailbox.

The status corresponding to this record becomes Valid.

Configure DMARC record

  1. On your Mailbox records page, get ready to copy the name and value corresponding to the dmarc record.
  2. On another tab or page, go to the records settings on your domain (refer to your domain manager for more information).
  3. Add a new record:
    • Record type: TXT
    • Name: Paste the name you have copied from the dmarc record of your Mailbox, or enter _dmarc depending on your domain manager.
    • Value or Hostname: Paste the value you have copied from the dmarc record of your Mailbox.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. On your Mailbox records page, click Check status to synchronize the information with your Mailbox.

The status corresponding to this record becomes Valid.

Configure DKIM record

  1. On your Mailbox records page, get ready to copy the name and value corresponding to the dkim record.
  2. On another tab or page, go to the records settings on your domain (refer to your domain manager for more information).
  3. Add a new record:
    • Record type: TXT
    • Name: Paste the name you have copied from the dkim record of your Mailbox.
    • Value or Hostname: Paste the value you have copied from the dkim record of your Mailbox.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. On your Mailbox records page, click Check status to synchronize the changes with your Mailbox.

The status corresponding to this record becomes Valid.

Configure SPF record

  1. On your Mailbox records page, get ready to copy the name and value corresponding to the spf record.
  2. On another tab or page, go to the records settings on your domain (refer to your domain manager for more information).
  3. Add a new record:
    • Record type: TXT
    • Name: Paste the name you have copied from the spf record of your Mailbox, or leave it empty depending on your domain manager.
    • Value or Hostname: Paste the value you have copied from the spf record of your Mailbox.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. On your Mailbox records page, click Check status to synchronize the changes with your Mailbox.

The status corresponding to this record becomes Valid.

Configure other records

The other DNS records listed on the Mailbox domain are recommended or optional. You can add them by following the same logic.

  1. On your Mailbox records page, check the information of the DNS record you wish to add to your domain.
  2. On another tab or page, go to the records settings on your domain (refer to your domain manager for more information).
  3. For any record that you want to add:
    • Record type: Enter or select the same type as the corresponding record of your Mailbox.
    • Name: Paste the name you have copied from the corresponding record of your Mailbox.
    • Value: Paste the value you have copied from the corresponding record of your Mailbox.

    Tip

    For the records for imap, pop3, and smtp, the value starts with three numbers that correspond to priority, weight, and port. If these fields exists on your domain manager, fill them in and remove them from the value field.

  4. Save your changes.
  5. On your Mailbox records page, click Check status to synchronize the changes with your Mailbox.

The status corresponding to this record becomes Valid.
